Part 1:
Research Media is Research company that collectsdata that can be used analyse infectious diseases (Flu, Ebola, Coivd etc).

Research Media has decided to merge all of its associated companies' data into one central store. It believes that moving all of the available data into one central location will aid with the future decision making of the organisation.

Presently the companies that it owns have been allowed to purchase and use any database product, and so there is a range of vendors (Oracle, Microsoft, MySQL for example) with an associated range of operating systems and versions of those products.

Research Media has employed a consultant to start the process and have asked for a second opinion.

The consultant has recommended using a NOSQL approach as they feel that acquiring data from different data sources is the way forward.
Semester one assessment

a) Critically, discuss the issues with merging data from a variety of different sources and the potential issues for Research Media

b) Critically, discuss what is a NOSQL approach and discuss the potential advantages and disadvantages to Research Media

c) Create a proof of concept to demonstrate how a NOSQL database could be used to aid with interpreting disease related data

The consultant for Research media has suggested that the organisation should implement a data warehouse.

d) Critically discuss the key components of how data would be transferred into a data warehouse and reflect on the process of acquiring data from the companies owned by Research media. It is expected that you will reflect on data quality, source of data, how the data was generated etc.

e) Critically discuss the database objects you could implement to improve performance. It is expected that you will create a proof of concept to demonstrate this.

The consultant has frequently used the term dashboard when discussing data mining and reporting. Research Media have become confused by this term.

f) Discuss what is meant by dashboards with respect to reporting of information gathered by data mining techniques.

g) By using WEKA or a similar tool demonstrate how Research Media can obtain knowledge from a data set. In this section, you are not restricted to the Research Media domain. You could use any of the data sets from WEKA or from another source.
