Instructions
This assessment is a research presentation in group on a major research project. You select one of the current issues in hospitality (and tourism) covered in the unit as your focus, for example 'climate change and its implication in hospitality. You are also required to choose a country (or a region) as a case study destination showcasing a significant challenge of the chosen issue to the national or regional tourism and hospitality sector. The presentation should be a maximum of 35 minutes including a short discussion and/or summary on possible implications with additional 5 minutes of Q&As. To support and respect, you should prepare a short handout for everyone that details the main thrusts of its presentation in electronic format, for example via Canvas. Also. you need to submit a maximum of 300 words on your own self-reflection on this group task, which is collected by group leader and submitted with PowerPoint by email.
PREPARATION
Before starting this assessment, you will need to identify a topic, consult with, and gain approval from the lecturer. You must then undertake an in-depth research using journal articles, textbooks, websites, business magazines and/or newspapers articles about your chosen topic. You should ensure familiarity with general assignment writing guidelines.
DETAILED ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS
For this assessment (and Assessment 3), you in group are required to choose a topic (e.g., climate change) and a country (or a region) (e.g.. Singapore, Paris) as a case study destination showcasing a significant challenge to the national or regional tourism and hospitality sector. The research should identify key issues and aspects, and critically discuss these as well as suggest current or potential innovative and creative solutions and broader implications considering the ethical and social consequences. The 'significant challenge has to be one of the topic areas to be covered in this unit during the semester. They include 'climate change and its implications', 'risk of food supply and food (in)securitys, 'political change, instability and terrorism', and 'technological change and its impacts' in boarder contexts. The group presentation should satisfy the following instructions and guidelines.
The presentation should include:
1. a background information of your chosen country or region as well as your case study;
2. an introduction to the importance of its tourism and hospitality economy;
3. relevant maps and images (short video clips are allowed - 4 minute maximum);
4. a comprehensive breakdown of a significant challenge to the tourism and hospitality sector or economy;
5. critical discussions of the solutions or potential solutions to the identified issues, including at least one whole class discussion item;
