Managing Organisational Behaviour
Task 1 (500 words)
(The scenario does not form part of the overall word count)
Think of the organisational change scenario in an organisation which has occurred or is currently occurring and in which the concepts of leadership, conflict, power and politics, organisational culture and managing organisational change are relevant.
Write this scenario down (in no more than 600 words or one page).
Be sure to describe the organisational change event, the type(s) of change, the main forces of change and the targets of change. Also include the descriptions of key players in this change scenario and descriptions of relevant situational events/variables (who?, what?, where?, why?, how?).
This scenario should meet the following criteria:
• The scenario should commence with an opening statement which sets the scene in terms of the relevance of the scenario to you. The scenario must describe an organisational change event/problem.
• The scenario must describe an organisational change event/problem which could be analysed from a leadership and power perspective.
• The scenario must describe an organisational change event/problem which could be analysed from a conflict management perspective.
• The scenario must describe an organisational change event/problem which could be analysed from an organisational culture perspective.
• The story/scenario should be concrete (about real people, actions and events); familiar to a work setting and believable to those who read it.
• Structurally your story should involve a setting, a build-up (trouble's coming!) and a crisis, problem or climax.
Task 2 (2100 words)
Analyse the scenario/event/problem by critically discussing the following organisational behaviour issues as they pertain to the scenario:
1. Critically discuss the leadership approach(es) that have been employed during the change process and comment on their effectiveness (Module 10, Chapter 14 of Wood et al, 2019 and Module 6, Chapter 11 of Wood et all, 2019). (500 words)
2. Critically discuss the power and politics issues which emerged or could have emerged during the change process (Module 7, Chapter 10 of the textbook). (500 words)
3. Critically discuss the conflict management process (and associated stages) which emerged or could have emerged during the change process (500 words). (Module 8 - Chapter 13 of Wood et al., 2019)
4. Critically discuss the role of the organisation's culture in the change process (consider current culture and possible future culture) (Module 9 - Chapter 9 of Wood et al., 2019). (500 words)
Task 3 (Recommended actions - Maximum 2.5 pages)
Make recommendations: Draw up a table and summarise what approaches would have been more effective in dealing with problems articulated in the scenario, with regarding to
(1) leadership approaches;
(2) approaches to dealing with power and politics;
(3) conflict management approaches;
(4) approaches to manage organisational culture.
Your recommendations need to be a logical extension of the discussion in Task 2. This means you need to include a rationale for each recommendation that draws on the theories you discussed in Task 2.
