Critical Reading Assignment
Attached a collection of news stories compiled by professors at George Brown. Choose one article that catches your attention, read it, then answer the following questions:
1) Does the article make an argument? What is the main idea of the article?
- Try to summarize it in 1-2 sentences.
2) Who do you think is the intended audience?
- How can you tell?
- How do you think that influences the focus or style of the writing?
3) What is the article's primary purpose? To inform, entertain, or persuade?
- Does it also make use of one or both of the other two types of purpose?
4) Would you say it appeals primarily to the reader's emotions, morality, or logic?
- Does it also make use of the other two means of persuasion?
5) Be sure at the end to cite the article you used.
- Use APA citation if you know how (Use the "APA Citation and Research Resources" folder on Blackboard for help).
