Case: You will be developing a curriculum on the topic and the population that were proposed and approved in PSYC 485 Capstone I. The curriculum assignment includes the development of CLO's, a curriculum outline, writing two fully detailed lesson plans for the curriculum, and two 30-35 minute presentations teaching the lesson plans that you developed to an imaginary audience. These presentations will be reviewed by your peers. Assignments progress in a cohesive fashion so that they are usable for the following assignments. This being said, each assignment is graded on its own merit. Your grade on one assignment does not dictate your grade on the following assignment. With this in mind, it is critical that you review the feedback from your instructor on each assignment.
Understanding the intended outcomes of curriculum is a critical foundation for the initial development of the curriculum. You will create curriculum learning outcomes and lesson objectives that will help direct the outlining and content of the curriculum. You will also write an introduction that will provide a helpful preview of curriculum content.
1. After reviewing the sample for Part 1 of the project create a brief outline for your curriculum. Follow the sample format. The curriculum overview should include:
• Identification of approved topic
• Identification of approved population
• Identification and description of the target audience
o Keep in mind that the curriculum you are writing should be age and developmentally appropriate based on the identified audience. For example, if your approved topic and population is bullying during early adolescence, the curriculum should be written for a relevant audience. Perhaps the audience is Middle School teachers. Maybe you choose to write to the audience of middle schoolers.
• 4-5 Curriculum Learning Outcomes, using verbs from Bloom's Taxonomy
o Outcomes should be specific, measurable, and identify what participants will accomplish after participating in all 4 lessons.
Create a curriculum Weekly Outline that includes
• Sub-topic for each week's lesson (weeks 1- 4) and related Course Learning Outcomes for each Lesson
o 4-5 Lesson Objectives for each week's topic. Lesson objectives briefly describe the basic content that will be covered in the respective lesson. Use the phrase, "Participants will learn . . .".
• Write an introduction for the curriculum. Write it as though you are providing information to the teacher/presenter. Incorporate a summary of content that will be covered in the curriculum, the teaching approach, as well as highlight the outcomes for the audience.
