Assignment:
Both the report and the presentation involve the critical analysis of a contemporary issue in management.

Topic - Crisis management

Phase 1
a. Students will be organized into groups of up to 10, and each group will be allocated a different topic.
b. The allocated topics will be based on a call for papers for a special issue of a business or management academic journal.
c. The group need to consult the relevant journal, and allocate the articles, so that each student has at least two papers to work on.
d. Each student is then asked to create a 500-800-word critical summary of the articles that they have been allocated. Then, each student is required to produce further critical summaries of 3 other recent articles (published in the last 3 years) on the same topic in other journals, and different from those articles used by other members of the group).
e. Each student will eventually submit one critical summariy as part of the group portfolio.

Phase 2
Groups will then identify between 5 and 10 academic journal articles that they regard as making the most significant contribution to knowledge and practice associated with the topic on which the group is working. Using these articles, the group will put together a presentation, which will be delivered by the group in the time slot allocated. The presentation should be straightforward, focused, interesting, and useful to managers. It should be between around 30 minutes in length: any longer presentations will be cut-off at 45 minutes. Marks will be allocated for:
• The impact and interest level of the presentation
• The appropriateness of the identification of key papers
• The quality and coherence of the content of the presentation
• The quality of the presentation process
• Audience participation

Presentation

Each team should address (but should not be limited by) the following questions:
• Why do you think the topic matters to today's industry leaders?
• What were your biggest surprises in the research? In other words, briefly describe your leaming experience.
• What do you think are the main differences between academic and practitioner contributors to your selected topic? Why?
• Why is it important for industry leaders to understand the information that you have compiled?
• What are the future opportunities to research in your selected topic? Why?
