Question 5 - Sexual behaviour or misconduct in a counselling relationship is a particular risk for counsellors. Scenario -
You take a call from a client who has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has just returned home from the doctor's office and is alone. She is in a desperate emotional state and you are concerned about the risk of suicide.
You take a call from a women who has locked her drunk and abusive husband out of the house. She has three small children with her and is frightened for their lives. Her husband has been shouting and pounding on the door and has just threatened to get a crowbar out of the car to break in.
You are about to meet with a young man who is struggling with anger and suicidal thoughts. As you approach the waiting area he suddenly pulls out a knife and threatens to slit his wrists. He says he will kill anyone who tries to stop him. There are two other clients in the waiting area as well as the receptionist.
Question 19 - What is the purpose and benefits of a debriefing process with a client who has suffered a critical incident? (Medium)
Question 20 - List five (5) examples of good practice that counsellors can adopt to look after themselves when working with clients at risk.
