Question 5 - Sexual behaviour or misconduct in a counselling relationship is a particular risk for counsellors. Describe three (3) scenarios involving sexual behaviour or misconduct where there is a potential risk of litigation for the counsellor. Remember, counsellors may still be at risk even if they do not initiate the inappropriate behaviour. (Medium)

Question 8 - Research the information that counselling services provide to clients regarding their rights. This type of information will often be published on the website of a service. You may also like to look at the information in your practicum workplace.

Select an example that you feel best conveys information to clients about their rights, and reproduce this information below (cut and paste if possible). Don't forget to reference your source.

Question 9 - Review the NSW Code of Conduct for Unregistered Health Practitioners (Public Health Regulation 2012 (NSW), Schedule 3) and list ten (10) mandatory requirements that would apply to a counsellor practicing in NSW.

Question 17 - Research the crisis intervention policies and procedures in your practicum workplace to find out what the general guidelines and procedures are. These may be documented, but if not, you could ask your workplace supervisor to tell you about them.

Provide a summary of the Do's and Don'ts for counselling staff in the event of a crisis situation for a client. (Medium)

Question 18 - Consider each of the situations below and provide a brief description of your crisis intervention response. (Provide a Short answer for each scenario)

Scenario -

You take a call from a client who has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. She has just returned home from the doctor's office and is alone. She is in a desperate emotional state and you are concerned about the risk of suicide.

You take a call from a women who has locked her drunk and abusive husband out of the house. She has three small children with her and is frightened for their lives. Her husband has been shouting and pounding on the door and has just threatened to get a crowbar out of the car to break in.

You are about to meet with a young man who is struggling with anger and suicidal thoughts. As you approach the waiting area he suddenly pulls out a knife and threatens to slit his wrists. He says he will kill anyone who tries to stop him. There are two other clients in the waiting area as well as the receptionist.

Question 19 - What is the purpose and benefits of a debriefing process with a client who has suffered a critical incident? (Medium)

Question 20 - List five (5) examples of good practice that counsellors can adopt to look after themselves when working with clients at risk.
