No other criminal sanction stirs more debate than the death penalty. Criminological theories have certain assumptions that drive them and it is important to realize that these assumptions can in fact drive policy. As part of this activity, there will be two teams; Team A (Students with last names A-L) will make an argument for the death penalty using rational choice/deterrence theory and Team B (Students with last names beginning with M-Z) will make an argument against the death penalty using labeling theory.
