It solely on that basis alone. Presenting with imminent danger imposed on to you by another individual, there is an authorized use of force that is proportionate only to the threat is justifiably needed. The right to an action for the intended purpose of self-defense covers the civil liberty that the objective of law aims to protect.

Self-Defense as a Criminal Defense has a relationship with the shadow of law, because it deters initial aggressors from committing crimes intended to inflict harm or invade one's living quarters. It rightfully places individuals who would be victims of these crimes in a position where they are authorized to use force. The force would be considered proportional to the danger presented to them in order to de-escalate the situation. It is a Shadow of the Law in the sense that it regulates individuals from engaging in these kinds of activities.
