A crime as defined by the book is an “offense against society.”(pg 7, law for business) Crimes are determined by the punishment provide, either by a felony or misdemeanor. Felonies can be punishable by death or imprisonment. A misdemeanor are not as serious, the punishment can be a fine or imprisonment in a local or county jail. Torts are defined by the book as “a private or civil wrong or injury for which there may be an action for damages.” (pg 21, law for business) This can be intentional or negligence. If someone is injured by a product, like spilling coffee on themselves, they can sue the establishment for damages. Ethics “principles that determine the morality of conduct, its motives, and its duties.” (8, law for business) This is a judgement call on what is right and wrong, these can be determined by personal values. “We thus base our laws on our morals” (pg 8, law for business).

When something might be legal, but not ethical. In Oklahoma one thing that comes to mind, fracturing. This is an environmental ethic concern, it is legal for oil drilling operations to use hydraulic fracturing. They are often targets of angry protesters in the communities around the drilling. The reason is because the communities believe that fracturing causes earth quakes, damaging the areas surrounding the drilling. Earth quakes seem to be getting larger and more often, causing structural damages.
