Assignment - Promotional Postcard
ASSIGNMENT OBJECTIVE:
For your second Photoshop assignment, you will be creating a promotional postcard using Photoshop tools and techniques we have learned so far including:
• Elements of Design • Principles of Design
• Design Tension • Colour Theory
• Typography • Brush Tool
• Eraser Tool • Shape Tool
• Move Tool • Adjustments Layers
• Gradient Tool • Type/Text Tool
• Transform (Scale, Rotate and Free Transform) • Paint Bucket Tool
• Create a new document • Create a composite image
• Combine images • Smart Objects
• Select All/Copy/Paste • Blend Modes
• Layer Styles • Grouping Layers
ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Create a new document with the following specifications:
• 8.5" x 5.5" or 5.5" x 8.5" (Portrait or Landscape)
• Resolution: 300 pixels/inch
• Colour mode: RGB (16 bit)
• (Background Contents/Custom Colour Optional)
2. Appropriate image use:
• Select four images provided in the following folder: Postcard Images.zip
• You cannot use any additional photos, your own images, drawings or clip art found on the internet
• You can only use images provided
• If using the Frame Tool to place images into your Composite Image ensure that you click the option to Inset Image as Embedded not Linked (Widow/Properties/Inset Image/Place from Local Disk - Embedded)
3. Image arrangement ideas: (For inspiration only - You're encouraged to use your own creativity)
• One image is a background image with three smaller images
• A colour background with four smaller images
• Two medium sized images with two smaller sized images
4. Logo: Use one of the following logos provided within Postcard Logos.zip:
• Sheridan Travels Logo - Black.psd
• Sheridan Travels Logo - Colour.psd
• Sheridan Travels Logo - White.psd
5. Copy:

6. Image Adjustments:
• Arrange images in an attractive layout using your knowledge on the elements of design, principles of design, design tensions and colour theory
• All four images must be converted to Smart Objects so that you don't degrade the image quality in any way
• You must crop, transform, scale, rotate images as necessary to fit them all within the layout in an attractive manner
• Ensure that you do not distort images and the aspect ratio is maintained
• If using the Frame Tool to place images into your Composite Image ensure that you move or transform the embedded image so that it fills the entire frame
• You must apply a Blending Mode (not including Normal State) or Opacity (not including 100% opaque) at least once
• You must group your layers and apply a Drop Shadow Layer Style to the entire group
• If you used an image as a background it does not need to be within the group and does not need a Drop Shadow Layer Style applied
