This semester, we have worked to develop a background in environmental history. On this essay, you will demonstrate your ability to apply what you have learned from this class to understanding the historical context behind current discussions related to Climate Change.

1. Select a current news item related to Climate Change dated May or June 2023.

2. Cut and paste the text of the news item into a word processor like Microsoft Word (.docx, etc.)

Be sure to include the title, author, source, date, and link to the original article.

Example: Gethin Chamberlain, "Why Climate Change is Creating a New Generation of Child Brides," The Guardian (UK), 26 November 2017.

Add three footnotes of approximately one paragraph (five sentences) each to the news article.

To create-a footnote in Word, select the "references" tab, then "insert footnote." If you can't figure out how to do-this in the program you are using, you can manually create footnotes by adding a number in the text like this (1) and then placing your commentary at the bottom of the page.
Your footnotes should give the reader historical background or commentary on people, places, ideas, terms, or other information necessary to understand the significance and historical background of the news article as it relates to environmental history.
Use readings, lectures, and other materials from this semester as part of your footnotes.
