Question: Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring/Caring Science is one of the theoretical frameworks that has been instilled in the practice of nursing. Under this theoretical framework are different core principles/practices that can be used as a guide to decision making in practice, one of them being providing a caring-healing environment. As advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs), we can apply this principle in our practice by first instilling the caring-healing framework within ourselves. The caring-healing environment stems from compassion and empathy, but before one can demonstrate that, an individual must be able to care for oneself (Wei & Watson, 2019). Developing a sense of empathy and sensitivity allows for an APRN to be more authentic, attentive, and present when working with a patient (Watson, 2020). When an individual cultivates these qualities within themselves, it becomes easier to develop healthier relationships with colleagues, and in turn, with patients. Besides developing these inner characteristics, APRNs can also instill this practice by creating a work environment that allows for optimal healing (Wei & Watson, 2019). This type of healthy working environment is a place where team members are excited and happy to work because this in turn tremendously affects the quality of care given to patients (Wei & Watson, 2019). An ideal healthy workplace is composed of a stress-free environment that offers the opportunity for collaboration and support for one another; one where members can feel valued. It is important to reduce the different types of role stress in APRNs because a workplace where team members are unhappy, burnt out, and stressed can negatively impact care. In conclusion, APRNs are responsible for creating a harmonious environment that promotes job satisfaction, which can ultimately bring optimal, quality patient care. Make a reply for this discussion
