If you had the ability to create your own world and fashion your own civilization and culture, how would you put it together? Using elements from anywhere and any time that we have studied in this class, you are going to propose some of the basic ingredients that you feel could combine to create a "perfect" place. You can mix or match them - for example: you can choose a government system like the democracy of ancient Athens but a belief system like Buddhism. You are in charge. You are to propose your suggestions for the following components of your civilization (and state WHY you have done so):

First: Where and When would you place your civilization? (It can be in an actual location or "a galaxy far, far away." For this component, it is not necessary to limit yourself to what we have looked at in the texts.)

Second: What governmental system would you use?

Third: What sort of belief system (or multiple systems) would you have?

Fourth: What kinds of written and/or oral literatures and histories would there be?

You will need to be precise when you state each characteristic and why you chose it. Once you have posted your reply, then look at the replies of at least two other students. See what they chose - is it similar to your ideas or is it different? If it is different, ask them why they selected that feature and not something else. Share with one another your own feelings about whether or not it is possible to fabricate and "control" a world...
