The owner of a small cleaning services company (12 staff members) has been operating for the past 10 years and the employee payroll is prepared manually. The business is experiencing a growth spurt and 7 additional temporary employees are now to be made permanent. The business owner would like to automate the payroll system. Your group has been contracted to create the automated payroll system.

Payroll Process Overview

When the business receives a service order or request from a customer or client, a job order form is filled out. The job order contains a reference number, location(s), date and time(s) service is carried out, nature of the service, type of personnel, rate (hourly or weekly) and the amount of hours worked. Once the job is completed, the owner or a supervisor signs off on the job order and it is placed in a folder file for payroll processing.

The base payments are calculated using the rate and amount of hours worked, then adjustments are made for taxes and other statutory deductions. Employees are paid weekly.

As part of your design, you are to create a data model which represents the business’s payroll model, and implement the model using a database package of your choice (MS Access, My SQL, MS SQL, etc.).
