The purpose of this post is to describe my experience with using project management software to create a test project plan for a patient information system. The patient information system will need to improve the delivery of healthcare by improving patient data management and outcomes. I was unable to use the ProjectLibre software, but was able to pivot and utilize a similar program from Monday.com. The project would be accomplished by creating modules that would be implemented in phases. The three main modules include the "Admission, Discharge, and Transfer Module," the "Patient Registration Module," and the "Patient Scheduling Module." These modules are further broken down into further subtasks, which are given due dates that can allow for easier tracking and monitoring (Sipes, 2019, pp. 55-57). Furthermore, these modules will be implemented in a phased approach, which allows for testing and refinement prior to advancing the project.

As previously mentioned, ProjectLibre proved to be cumbersome as I was not even able to download the software. In fact, as Goncalves (n.d.) explains, a common complaint of project management software is that it can be too complicated and cumbersome to navigate. An example may be having to perform excessive clicks to complete a task. However, this was not my experience with Monday.com. Creating the test project was intuitive and easy. For instance, after watching a short tutorial I was able to create the modules. Additionally, the software was easy to navigate.

After using project management and conducting some research, I believe there can be strengths and weaknesses to using this software for big and small projects. For small projects, I feel the software can seamlessly implement project management techniques, such as improving communication and organization, as tasks are being created. Conversely, depending on small or simple a project is, using software may make things more complicated than they need to be (Chappell, 2021). However, I feel project management software is critical for large scale projects. As an example, these types of software can provide a 10,000 feet view of timelines and better allocate resources (Chappell, 2021).
