It is easier for a student to learn to read and write in English if they have already mastered these skills in their first language. Parents and families who do not speak English well should be encouraged to assist their children to become ready to read by teaching them nursery rhymes, songs, word games, and storybooks in their native language. By sending books home in the child's native language, teachers may encourage reading with their student's parents. The availability of content in the L1 makes it clear to parents that the instructor values reading aloud to students in their native language. Increase the pace at which ELLs learn English by bridging the gap between their native language skills and the English they will need to succeed in the global economy (Ford, K., n.d.).

To better serve my English Language Learner (ELL) students, parents, and families, I create ESL books for beginners with English words in blue beneath the Spanish ones. As a means of bolstering my command of the English language, I want to create flashcards including both the letter of the alphabet the word starts with and an illustration of the word.
