A culture of care that is patient-centered is fundamental to the healthcare industry. The results of that care may be impacted directly or indirectly by changes in process and technology. A current illustration of disruptive innovation in healthcare is EHR. As we are seeing with EHRs, most innovations require enhancement to the initial offering. Without the proper involvement and consideration of all stakeholders, most notably providers and patients, they were hurriedly adopted. Changes in medicine should not be made in this manner. Legislation intensified the disruption and finally compelled healthcare to embrace EHRs across the board. Although there are many benefits to EHRs, they have not yet been fully realized (Dignity Health, 2021).

Although the introduction of EHRs was disruptive, iterative improvements can be made to create effective workflows and enhance usability forall parties. Major evidence-based improvements will be achieved over time by making small, regular changes without the excessive risk associated with disruptive innovation.
