Module A: Contemporary Possibilities
Task Outline
To demonstrate the skills learnt in the unit 'Contemporary Possibilities', students must create and submit either a vlog, or a podcast with a concept map on Google Classroom.
Task Description
To demonstrate the skills learnt in the unit 'Contemporary Possibilities', students must create and submit a multimodal text that addresses the following idea:
"A story is told using multiple delivery channels through a combination of media modes."
- Explain how this is demonstrated through your understanding of the story of Saroo Brierley and the texts studied in the unit 'Contemporary Possibilities'.
You MUST refer to the film 'Lion'.
You will have TWO options to complete this task (see last page for details).
Outcomes
EN11-1 Responds to and composes increasingly complex texts for understanding, interpretation, analysis, imaginative expression and pleasure.
EN11-2 Uses and evaluates processes, skills and knowledge required to effectively respond to and compose texts in different modes, media and technologies
EN11-3 Analyses and uses language forms, features and structures of texts, considers appropriateness for purpose, audience and context and explains effects on meaning
EN11-5 Thinks imaginatively, creatively, interpretively and analytically to respond to and compose texts that include considered and detailed information, ideas and arguments
EN11- 7 Understands and explains the diverse ways texts can represent personal and public worlds
Option One - Concept map and podcast (3- 4 minutes):
Students will create a concept map that will be presented on either A3 or A4 paper. The concept map must use images, as well as text to address the statement above. A guide to concept maps will be issued to all students for assistance via Google Classroom. Colour, lines, borders, icons and symbols are essential elements needed for the concept map to be successful.
Students will then record a podcast about the statement above and their understanding of it. In this reflection, they must reflect on the unit of work studied, as well as how their concept map has visually represented their understanding of the idea of 'Contemporary Possibilities. The podcast can go for no longer than 4 minutes.
Option Two - Vlog (5 - 6 minutes):
Students can alternatively create a vlog (video blog) that would address the statement above.
This vlog would need to use a range of film, visual and textual features. They should edit this vlog effectively to present their ideas about the statement and also include their reflection on the statement.
The personal presentation, intonation, editing and filming are all important aspects for this task.
It should be no more than 6 minutes. Sample vlogs can be viewed on Youtube and will also be shared on the Google Classroom.
