OVERVIEW

Ten years ago, internal medicine specialist Dr. Diana Wu and Dr. Alan Johnson decided to combine their individual practices in Abbotsford to form Millennium Wellness.

They wanted to create a clinic that would concentrate on preventative medicine and fitness, as well as traditional medical care.

Millennium has competition from other health care providers, but no other clinic offers the same range of services. Millennium's practice has grown and now includes four primary care physicians, one nurse practitioner, two physical therapists, four registered nutritionists, six nurses, and eight regular support staff people.

The clinic has a patient base of 6,000 patients from 210 different employers, many of which provide insurance coverage for employee wellness and health maintenance. Currently, Millennium accepts insurance plans from 12 licensed extended health insurance providers.

Millennium is also considering opening another location. Dr. Wu and Dr. Johnson recently decided that the practice needs an upgraded information system to support its business and health information management needs. The new system would replace a mix of paper-based and legacy systems. Dr. Wu asked you to design an information system that would support the clinic's current operations and future growth.

In your first meeting, Dr. Wu provided an overview of the clinic's business processes and staff members. He told you that Frances Ball, who has been with Millennium since its inception, is the office manager. She supervises the support staff of seven people.

Ted Harris handles human resources and employee benefits. Grant West reports directly to Ted and works with payroll, tax reporting, and profit distribution among the associates.

Jane Wright is responsible for the maintenance of patient medical records. Kevin Edwards handles accounts receivables and Zoey Voth is the insurance billing specialist.

Sharon Dhaliwal is responsible for managing the appointment list. Kim Young is concerned primarily with ordering and organizing office and medical supplies.

In addition, there are two workstations for the checkin/checkout area of the clinic, staffed on a contract basis. ORGANIZATION CHART Your INFO 2416 members will form the IT department. Create an organization chart for the Millennium Wellness, including the IT staff.

(Microsoft Word has a facility for doing this.) Each of the physicians, the nurse practitioner, therapists, nutritionists and support staff has their own workstation. The nurses work from one of the three nurse stations that should have at least two computers at each station.

Each nurse station will have a high-volume network laser printer and scanner attached to one workstation. The general checkin/checkout area will have an impact printer for multipart forms and a network laser printer.

The network will include an online backup service, and Internet access via a broadband connection with a local Internet service provider.

The partners want you to ensure the physical network is scalable, and able to handle the electronic medical record phase after the business support system is implemented. The network will include one server, as well as the workstations listed above and printers as specified.

Part 1: Network Diagram and Plan

Complete a Network Diagram (using Microsoft Visio, for example) showing all devices (router, Network Printers, SAN if any, etc) and their IP addresses (specific addresses for static IP addresses, or DHCP for any dynamically allocated addresses).

Also include approximate costing information for the network hardware and software.

Remember to cost out Windows Server 2012 R2 and the Client Access Licenses for the workstations.

Please include all Organization Units and Groups that you would use as well.

Part 2: Basic Configuration

Setup a Windows Server 2012 R2 VM for Millennium Wellness to manage all printers, workstations (DHCP), file sharing (folders), etc. according to the following:

• Add local or network printers to your Windows Server 2012 R2, and share them. (Note: since you probably won't have real printers to add, you can use non-physical devices like the Microsoft XPS Document Writer when creating your printers.)

• Add two share folders (Nurse Documents and Admin Documents) and create an appropriate permission structure for the staff of the clinic. • Create Computer Objects for all your workstations.

• Create a client VM workstation and join it to your domain.

Part 3: Organizational Units, GPOs, IIS and FTP Roles

• Create all your Organizational Units (OU) as described in Part 1 (make sure to include a Nurses OU).

• Link a GPO to the Nurses OU.

• Use this GPO to allow Nurses to access their shared Nurse Documents folder when logging in from any workstation.

• Add the IIS and FTP roles, and setup an IT Dept Web Site with a page showing the names of your group members.

You should be able to access this page using a web browser running on the client workstation (make sure to create an entry for the web page in the DNS service running on the server).
