There are three fundamental assumptions underlying the US labor relations process: that the adoption and support of a capitalist economic system creates an inherent conflict between employers and employees; that a democratic political system allows employees to pursue employment interests, lawfully; and that collective bargaining provides a process for meaningful employee participation in in the determination of work rules through independently chosen representatives (unions).
