Purpose
A complete and accurate job description is the foundation of creating a proper recruitment plan to fill a vacant position. The job description defines not only the role duties, but also the requirements (skills, knowledge, experience, competencies, etc.) that recruiters will seek to find in potential candidates. Overstating or understating these requirements can impact not only the success of the search, but also the job satisfaction of the selected incumbent.
How to Proceed
Create an ideal job description for your current position or one you would like to hold in the future. You can be as creative as you wish. The job description should include the following sections and be no more than 3 pages' maximum:
> job title;
> position summary (2-3 sentences max);
> responsibilities;
> requirements (knowledge, skills, experience, competencies); and
> working conditions.
Please use specific plain language that would appeal to a wide audience and refrain from using acronyms or other unique terminology that might be unique to your organization.
