Create an Elements of Fiction overview of The Handmaid's Tale.
Be sure to thoroughly cover the following in your discussion and include a Works Cited page for the novel. Use headings to identify the elements and to organize the response.
• Plot: Write out a brief overview of the plot of the novel and discuss what type of plot it is (e.g. chronological, flashback, etc.).
• Character: Identify the main protagonist and main antagonist and give a brief character description of each.
• Setting: Give an overview of the places, times, and cultural circumstances of the major actions in the story.
• Point of View: Identify what type of narration the novel has as its primary narrative voice.
• Symbolism: Discuss whether there are any major elements of symbolism in the story (identify and discuss one).
• Theme: Discuss what you think the primary theme of the novel is.
• Style: Identify any major stylistic elements that the author uses in the novel.
The purpose of the assignment is to show that you thoroughly understand how to identify the elements of fiction in a longer work.
Length/Format Requirements:
The assignment should be a minimum of two to three (2-3) typed, double spaced pages not including the Works Cited page. Use a 12pt font in Times New Roman or Arial. Margins should be 1" on all sides. Do not use a title page, but use a proper MLA heading, and title your assignment.
Quoting and Documenting Requirements:
You are required to use quoted material from the novel for this assignment. Quoted material must be properly documented within the text and on a Works Cited page using correct current MLA documentation style.
