Assignment:
Write a process report/summary documenting your experience with this exercise:
1. In the video Part 2: How to Create an Area Comparison Analysis to Visualize Jobs, why did you choose it?
2. How did it go as you followed along with the video for your chosen city? Did you have any challenges?
3. Describe three distinct data points (in other words, pieces of data or findings) that you gathered from following along with your video and interpret them numerically (i.e., identify significant percentages, raw numbers, proportions, etc.). How does this inform your career planning or your understanding of workers in the city that you chose? Take three separate and specific screenshots of the maps, charts, or tables you generate that correspond to your data takeaways and embed them in your report/summary at relevant intervals in your discussion of the data points (that means put your figures near the sentences that are describing them). Be sure to label each of the three images you use with a numbered and descriptive title (e.g., Figure 1. Map of Downtown San Jose, CA, 2020).
- Please provide the 3 screenshots
4. While you couldn't measure statistical correlations or predictions with this assignment's data, what elements of this assignment connected to something you've learned/or think you will learn in Sociology 104 (Quantitative Research Methods) about interpreting or presenting quantitative data? Assess how well you were able to navigate, understand, and interpret the Census data. Where do you want to build more capacity in your quantitative/data/numerical literacy skills?
5. How might you feature or use this exercise or skill in your job search? (e.g., Can you polish the census data analysis portion in item 3 into a portfolio sample? How might you talk about quantitative, data, or numerical literacy skills in your resume/cover letter?)
