Others may have studied a degree that expected them to read no further that the set textbook (often written by the lecturer). Some of you may be unclear about the conventions of academic integrity.
Therefore, the tasks for this assessment serve multiple purposes; to finesse your academic skills, capabilities and competencies through task-orientated learning and, to create a useful resource which you can use in this topic and can build on as you make your way through this degree.
For the purpose of this assignment, your annotated bibliography is the foundation of research for your final paper. By following a series of organised steps and paying meticulous attention to the task requirements you will end up with a testimony to all the research and work you have undertaken.
The best annotated bibliographies record enough key information to ensure that anyone could pick it up and use it as a resource to write a paper without the need to return to the original article or book. Therefore, this work must be paraphrased and written in your own words. If you decide to record a direct quote or some key information, then the page number/s must be recorded.
Follow these steps:
1) Before you start: You will need to read the instructions for Assignment 3. Choose an area of interest to youfrom the diverse populations we will be covering during the semester, this will be the focus of your final paper. Once you have chosen a broad topic, narrow that down to a specific group, for example ‘women who live in poverty in Australia'. By limiting the parameters of your research in this way, you can search relevant research to support your argument in your final paper.
2) Searching for appropriate resources:Throughout the semester the Productive learning Workshops will provide you with all of the tools you need to successfully complete this assignment. We will be spending time in these workshops to work on your assignment.
3) Use the template provided to record your resources
4) Constructing accurate citations in APA6th: This task requires you to follow the instructions carefully.
5) Writing a summary: Your summary should cover the key points in the resource that are relevant to your research. Do not include un-necessary information. Each summary should be a decent paragraph of 4-8 sentences. This is not a space for your opinion but should be a summary of the resource.
5a) Your summaries should:
• Outline the main argument
• Explain the main points and purpose of the work
• Identify any conclusions made by the author/s
• Highlight any special features of the text that were unique or helpful
• Point out in what way the text relates to themes or concepts relating to this topic and your third assignment
