Assignment - Lab: Principal Components Vulnerability Analysis

The purpose of this laboratory assignment is to calculate the Societal Vulnerability Index for Sarasota County. In the process, we'll reinforce and synthesize tools we've learned in previous course. For your convenience, I've downloaded, formatted, and joined the relevant American Community Survey 5 year (2011-2015) information to the Sarasota shapefile. You may work in groups of 2 students. Amend the in class R script (SOVI Tutorial_b.Rmd) to analyze the Sarasota Census information. Please answer the following questions.

At what point(s) in the PCA process can we decide to compress the data? What effect does this have?

How many principal components did you retain? Why did you choose this number?

Load the results into ArcMap. Create a thematic map. Interpret the social vulnerability index. Do the map results make sense?

Instructions: It is an assignment which should be done by R programming.
