Assignment Task:

Prompt: For this short paper, you will need to monitor the amount and type of trash you and/or your family dispose of for one week. You decide what categories you need: food, paper, plastic, and so on. Once you have your data, create a graph or pie chart showing your findings. Analyze and make predictions based on the data you collected. Be sure to include a summary of your findings and explain any anomalies you noticed. Also, include a simple statement as to the accuracy of your initial prediction from Module One and a brief discussion on any areas where you see the possibility to reduce the amount of waste generated by you and your family. You will also respond to the discussion in Module Eight as it is tied to this assignment.

Specifically the following critical elements must also be addressed:

Trash Categories: Organize your collected data based on the categories you defined for the trash types.

Trash Monitoring Data: Create a table documenting your trash monitoring for at least one week.

Chart: Create a chart that clearly presents your trash monitoring data and categories. Be sure that your chart is easy to read and visually appealing.

Prediction Accuracy: Analyze the data you collected, and reflect on your initial prediction from Module One regarding the trash you or your family produce in a week. Be sure to include a statement of accuracy that explains how accurate your prediction is based on one week of data. You may find that you were very close in some areas and way off in others. Discuss anything that stands out or surprises you.

Waste Reduction: Based on your findings, provide a brief discussion describing how you and your family can reduce the amount of waste generated.

View your data with a critical eye and think back over the course to formulate your discussion. You may notice that you discard a lot of aluminum or glass. How could you reduce this type of waste? If you throw away a lot of food in the week, is there a way to reduce the amount of this waste?

Guidelines for Submission: Your paper must be submitted as a 1-2-page Word document that includes a table and chart (e.g., pie, bar) with double spacing, 12-point Times New Roman font, one-inch margins, and at least one piece of resource material cited in APA format with a reference page.
