Design a subculture within the United States that is geographically-bound but is linked by more specific commonalities than the larger culture. This subculture may be part of any nationality, but you may find it helpful to create a subculture in the United States if that is your home country, as you will be most familiar with the prevailing norms. To do so:
In bullet points, list the characteristics that make this subculture distinct from the larger culture. Include at least 3 concepts related to intercultural conflict from Understanding Intercultural Communication by Ting-Toomey and Chung, chapters 9 and 10. Be sure to cite the concepts (1 slide minimum).
Select at least 4 concepts from everything we have learned thus far that further describe your subculture (2 slides minimum).
You may divide them however you see fit into your remaining slides; cite the concepts.
Here are some things we have learned thus far - in week 2, we covered cultural value patterns and cultural/ethnic identities; in week 3, we covered language and verbal and nonverbal codes; in week 4, we covered the role of power in cultural identity development.
