Intro to Design – Final Project

THE TASK

1. The task is to create a stand alone retail counter display set for the jewelry brand from assignment two focusing on regular and irregular geometric shapes, forms and pattern that best represent the company’s distinctive characteristic, or the series displayed while effectively enhancing the jewelry.

2. The main function of the display set is to display three to five jewelry pieces of similar or different type. Example, all five are rings or mixture of bracelet, rings and necklace. Students are required to select the type of jewelry from the brand and creatively create the jewelry to be displayed at the scale of 1:1. (to make it during week 10)

a. THE REQUIREMENTS: THE FUNCTIONS AND PURPOSE

1. The purpose of the display set is as a retail counter display set.

2. The function is to display minimum three and maximum five jewelry of the similar type or different type of jewelry and to allow the imaginary customers to try the jewelry. Imaginary customers should be able to remove the jewelry to try it on.

3. The display set should be a portable stand alone display set. It is optional if it could be could be dismountable and packed .

b. THE REQUIREMENTS: CONCEPT AND GEOMETRY

1. The concept/ approach/ theme/ intention could be from anything that is related to the jewelry brand and the series selected.

2. The aim of the overall look, concept and design should represent the jewelry brand identity or image and the series selected.

3. The design of the display set must use regular or irregular geometric shapes and forms to create interesting set up arrangements, pattern
and texture. Please do not use organic shapes unless it is formed by using regular circles however very minimal usage of organic lines,
shapes or form is allowed.

4. Do apply design element, color theory, design principles, and composition articulately to make the display set as interesting as
possible

c. THE REQUIREMENTS: Jewelry, Brand & Graphics

1. Students must find the best way to create a dummy replica of the selected jewelry series. The replica can be created by using paper
Mache, or recreate using imitation jewelry, or last option is to print it at one to one size. It should be clear and suitable to be displayed. Do not spend more than RM50.

2. The brand’s logo is allowed to be printed and placed at a suitable location and to be design as part of the overall display set.

3. Graphics and any other printed materials that have not been mentioned above are not allowed to be printed or to be placed on the
display set.

E.THE REQUIREMENTS: MATERIALS & METHODS

1. The display set may be constructed using the any cardboard materials such as, brown board, gray board, model board, sandwich foam board and even corrugated brown box.

2. Additional materials such as balsa wood, wire mash or plastic mash, and Perspex, colored paper, printed solid colored paper, metal sheets,
satay stick, plain colored straws, nails, screws, fabric and strings are allowed however please reconfirm with your tutors for approval.

3. Any model making techniques such as gluing and intersecting are allowed except laser cutting or digital printing is not allowed.

4. Hiring someone else to make your display set is not allowed. You are required to make your own display set by hand.

5. Do not spend more than RM100 to make the display set

f.THEREQUIREMENTS: Presentation Boards

1. The backing for the presentation board should be A2 size foam board or sandwich foam board.

2. The drawings, illustration and information should be drawn or written on any type of A2 paper suitable with the medium that will be used.

3. To complete the presentation boards, students are allowed to use markers, water color or mix medium. Printing is however is not allowed.

4. The board orientation must follow the submission requirements.

5. The aims of the presentation boards is too explain and illustrate the design process and intention of the display set using mostly diagrams. Do reduce long paragraph.

6. Please write your name discreetly on each board.
