Assignment
Read the following, and then respond to the prompt at the bottom. Your response should be no fewer than 200 words.
Any time a new semester starts, we have to think about and plan how to maneuver between our classes and our personal lives. First, I want you to think about a typical day for you. Here is what is going on in my life today:
5:00 - wake up and work out
6:00 - get kids up, shower, get ready, get kids ready, pack lunches, etc
7:20 - drop kids at school and daycare
8:00 - work in parking lot at son's school
8:45 - parent / teacher conference
9:15 - arrive at HCC campus and unpack car
10:00 - grade, answer emails, work on unit 1
12:00 - meeting at West Loop
1:00 - back to Katy to office
1:30 - answer emails, work on class things
2:30 - pick son up from school and go to Destination Imagination practice
5:30 - meet MIL to pick up daughter
6:00 - baths, homework, TV, dinner, ready for bed
7:30 - kids to bed, my TV time :)
9:30 - to bed
Part One: Create a schedule for a typical day. Make sure to include work, travel time, classes, etc.
Part Two: Now, think about this: The typical student takes 12 hours per semester. For each hour that you are in class per week (12 hours in class for 12 credit hours), you should spend 1-3 hours on homework. So, if you are in class 12 hours, then you should spend 12-36 hours on homework - that may be copying notes, studying, completing homework, whatever.
The prompt for this part of your response is this: First, calculate how many hours per week you should spend on school work - both in and out of class - based on the numbers I gave you above. Once you have done that, your response should consider where that time is going to come from, taking into account the schedule you created above. What are you going to have to give up to ensure your success? You can't always just stay up later--it's not sustainable, and it is unhealthy. So where?
Your complete response should be no fewer than 200 words.
