Metharom Construction (MC) plans to become a leading provider of housing construction and renovation services in the South-East Melbourne area. The company's overall strategy will be based on a continuing improvement process of setting objectives, measuring results, and providing feedback to facilitate further growth and progress. They have been involved in large scale construction for 3 years and are now branching out to residential housing.

During this unit, you will need to take on the role of the site supervisor. Your responsibilities are to: enforce site safety plans, ensure all tradespersons are inducted before they begin work, conduct regular inspections to ensure building quality, ensure that any contractors are complying with site rules and safe work method statements, identify and correct hazards, ensure that the site is ready for each trade before they arrive, and have frequent toolbox talks to ensure that WHS procedures are known and followed.

The project is to build a one storey office for a doctor (GP) in the suburb of Preston, Victoria, 3072.

Assessment 1: Create an explanatory document to be utilised by staff on-site. (Maximum of SOO
words)
Create a general explanatory document that discusses the following:
a) The structural principles related to demolishing a building
b) Structural performance (with reference to section properties) of cavity brick and single leaf masonry construction
c) Structural performance characteristics of slabs, floors, beams and retaining walls
d) Procedure for Metharom work teams to follow when demolishing a pre-existing structure
Employees will use this document as a reference; as such, you will need to make sure that you have discussed any relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice, and industry standards.

Assessment 2: Create a report regarding structural integrity and associated professionals. (Maximum of 600 words)
Prepare for the build by completing the following tasks:
a) Identify a recently created building technology that could be used for this project. Justify your answer.
b) Draft an email to a local engineer (your assessor) asking them to assist with the building work.
c) Determine how alpine, bushfire, earthquake and high wind requirements are relevant to the project.
d) Ensure the building is compliant with the requirements determined in 2c. Issue a correction, if necessary.
Altogether, this assessment should be no more than 600 words.

Assessment 3: Perform a site inspection.
Perform an inspection of the campus, or another site of your choice if you have access to one. You are required to complete the Pre-Commencement Checklist template provided in the appendices
(Appendix B).
Your assessor will advise you of a suitable date and time for you to carry out this inspection. You will need to submit the completed checklist to your assessor.

Assessment 4: Create a footing plan and instructional guide. (Maximum of 500 words)
Create a footing plan for the build, with reference to the documents provided. Your plan will be
utilised by work teams on-site, and needs to include all relevant details. Your footing plan must include, but is not limited to:
a) A diagram that indicates how footings for the building are to be laid (including specifications and the location of each footing's installation)
b) Instructions regarding the safe and correct laying of footings, and damp coursing
c) Explanation of how the plan is compliant with the BCA requirements. Ensure that you discuss the footings, damp coursing, and termite barriers.
d) A diagram demonstrating the location where damp coursing and termite barriers should be established
The written elements of this assessment must not exceed 500 words.

Assessment 5: Ensure the compliance of flooring systems by initiating flooring checks. (Maximum of 750 words)
Assess the flooring plan against the BCA requirements and issue any required corrections to achieve compliance. To prevent issues from occurring throughout the rest of the flooring process, complete the following:
a) Create a checklist for the inspection of timber flooring, to be distributed to all site supervisors
b) Explain the compliance requirements for fitted timber flooring (to be attached to the checklist as a reference)
c) Describe best practice for timber flooring, including OHS, and how you have incorporated these into your own work.
You will need to ensure that you have referred to relevant regulations and legislation. This assessment should be no more than 750 words.

Assessment 6: Ensure the compliance of flooring systems by Initiating flooring checks. (Maximum of 800 words)
In conjunction with the project documentation, manage the creation of wall systems by performing the following tasks:
a) Create a general instructional document for the installation and checking of steel framing
b) Outline the fixing and installation requirements of the windows and doors
c) Describe the performance characteristics of steel
d) Implement a process for ensuring that access to services including HVAC ducting, fire prevention systems and plumbing have been allowed for during construction
These documents should be compiled into reference text, and contain no more than 800 words.

Assessment 7: Plan the installation of roof systems. (Maximum of 700 words)
With reference to project documentation, legislation and regulations;perform the following tasks:
a) Draw a basic truss roof plan (using the floor plan provided in the appendices)
b) Describe how the roof is compliant with requirements
c) A plan for installation of roof sarking and cladding, including any ventilation requirements and service penetrations appropriate to the roof being constructed
d) A procedure for ensuring the quality of finished roof systems
e) Prepare a notice for the safety requirements for those working with a risk of falling Maximum of 700 words.
