Watch the Films on Demand video: Staying Motivated at Work.
In the video Marcus attempts to use a small token to help motivate his employees (a boomerang). Carol wins an award for a speech and thinks walking around the office wearing her Keynote Speaker lanyard and holding the award will help motivate her coworkers. She believes offering "constructive" criticism and a hot breakfast are also good ways to motivate her team. Marcus and Carol are both surprised when their motivational strategies don't work, in fact, productivity decreases instead of increasing.
As a result, you are asked by their supervisor, Serena, to come in on a consultant basis to help Marcus and Carol find new strategies to motivate the team. Serena also would like some information about recent research related to motivating employees.
Using concepts covered in Chapters 8 and 10 as well as information from Chapter 1, pgs. 17-18 create a report offering strategies and advice to Marcus and Carol about how to better motivate their team using concepts related to goal setting/goal striving and personal control beliefs.
Locate 1 to 2 current research articles in the Baker library related to motivating employees in the workplace and explain what the research indicates. In your report address the following: Explain the role Affect and Feeling play in the employee's current emotional state.
Identify how Marcus and Carol can use various goal setting strategies to better motivate their employees given their current attempts. Provide strategies Marcus and Carol can use to help employees create their own work related goals.
Offer advice to Marcus and Carol about how to use feedback and criticism in a way that is motivating to employees rather than de-motivating. Provide Serena with recent research related to motivating employees in the workplace.
You must incorporate 1-2 scholarly peer reviewed sources from the Baker library. You must use the textbook as a reference. Remember to follow APA guidelines with respect to within text citations and references.
