Case Study: Tom is a young man with complex needs. He has clinical depression, which began after he was involved in a serious accident several years ago which caused damage to Tom's spinal cord and severe head injuries. As a result Tom has to use a wheelchair and he has brain injury that impacts on his short-term memory and on his ability to speak clearly. Prior to the accident Tom was an active, high achieving Year 12 student and a member of a popular peer group. Now Tom is socially withdrawn, depressed, and living at home with his parents and his younger sibling. He spends much of his day in bed.
