In this assignment, you will find and critique virtual information and word processing skills to create a professional-looking document that promotes personal development or financial growth and maturity.
Search the Library and the Internet for information on a topic that interests you and that offers information on money management, personal health and safety, or parenting. Note the URL's where you find your material, as you will need to reference the information.
1. When you are done searching, highlight the text from the article or source being displayed in your browser (left click & drag cursor). Then while the text is still highlighted, right click and select Copy.
2. Next, open Microsoft Word and paste the information on the page (CTRL+V or click on the Home menu and click the Paste icon). Manipulate the formatting to suit your purpose by changing font size, font style, and font size.
3. Scroll to the end of the Word document and write a Summary of the article you selected.
4. Following the summary, create a reference entry for your source using APA reference format, including hanging indent.
5. Add a page border (click on the Page Layout menu and click the Page Borders button).
6. Use any Word features you can to make a nicely presented, effective document that presents useful information.
7. In a footer position (click the Insert menu and then the Footer icon), add a 3-4 word abbreviation of the title of the article.
The article Summary Section of Individual Project (IP) document should be prepared in APA 5th edition format which includes such areas as double spacing, 5 to 7 spaces in indenting paragraphs, and citing sources using APA format. Project should also include the following in which each is displayed on a separate page:
1) Title page - 1st page of document
2) Abstract - 2nd page of document
3) Reference Page - references should be in alphabetical order - final page of document
Your article should remain in its original format (specifically the spacing between lines). Also your paper should summarize an article on only one topic relating to either: 1) money management; or 2) personal health & safety; or 3) parenting. Also the URL must be referenced. Summary should provide details of the article and be no less than one full page in length (double spaced). Also format document so that it is clear where article ends and your summary begins.
If your internet article is 2 or 3 pages and your summary is one page, then the score will be high due to the article. However, if you have a one page article and a one page summary, then the score would still be high, but may also indicate that you need to use more of your own words in the summary. Also as a reminder, whenever, you copy the words of another author (quoting), or put their ideas into your own words (paraphrasing), you must acknowledge that you have done so in the text of your work otherwise you are plagiarizing their work.
