Alan is pretending to be a ninja; he is sitting at the bottom of a swimming pool breathing through a plastic pipe that has a volume of 250 ml. He has a breathing rate of 30 breaths per minute. When Alan is inhaling, air will move into his lungs because the change in lung volume creates a pressure gradient to drive air movement.
