Research reveals that many managerial careers derail for lack of interpersonal skills and the inability to work with others. It also suggests that reflection and setting goals helps you achieve success.
The aim of this assignment is to integrate your awareness of yourself with class concepts and to create a personal development plan. I hope to get you started on a path of personal development that will help you to achieve your professional goals.
The course calendar identifies the different self-assessments that you must complete:11 Personal Assessments - these are a combination of MyLab Personal Inventory Assessments (PIA) and other, external tools (e.g., personality assessments).
Part I: Development plan summary table and action plan
I have provided a template for your development plan on Canvas (also below this assignment information). Your assignment is to complete this template considering all the results/findings of your assessments and your interpretations. I am looking for specific recommendations (e.g., find and read a book on active listening within the next two months, generate three specific ideas for improving my listening skills based on this book, and implement and evaluate [discuss how you will evaluate] my success) not general statement such as "improve my listening skills."
Part II: 1-2 minute (no more than 3 minutes) self-reflection video
In the second part of this assignment, you will create a short reflection video based on your development plan summary and action plan. Based on your development plan summary table, you will create a reflection video. The video should be approximately 1- 2 minutes long (no more than 3minutes) and should focus on self-reflection and incorporation of class assignmentsby considering the following questions: (1) What did you learn about yourself? (2) What are your strengths and weaknesses? and (3) What were your blind spots (i.e., results/findings that surprised you)? In answering these questions, please be sure to thoroughly explain how these learnings inform how you see yourself or others/the world more broadly. For example, if I learned that I am motivated by extrinsic rewards, I might discuss how this does/doesn't resonate with me and what I know of myself, what it means in terms of my ideal job design or perhaps how that might shape my approach to negotiation.
