Part ONE - Find FIVE articles on one of the following subjects:
- Violence
- Social Media
- Human Rights
- Health Care
When searching for your articles, be sure to click on 'Full Text', a search option to the left. This will ensure that the entire article is available to you in pdf form, and not just the abstract. Once you have your five articles, PRINT THEM.
Part TWO - Narrow them down to THREE articles and answer the following questions in FULL SENTENCE form:
1) Do your articles have anything in common besides the overall topic? Explain.
2) What angle would you take on your topic? (i.e. what would you want to research further or discuss?)
3) Did you select the first five/three articles you came across or did you take your time and read the abstract? What is the benefit of carefully reading the abstract and being 'picky' about your selected articles?
4) Are your articles more recent? (2010-present) Or are they older? (prior to 2010) What is the benefit of selecting more recent articles?
Part Three - Gather your three articles from Part Two.
Part Four - Create a reference page for your chosen three articles. You must follow proper APA formatting.
Part Five - Gather your three articles from Part Two.
Part Six - Follow the example from the Purdue Owl website on quoting, paraphrasing, and summarizing and complete the following assignment. You can review the example here: Assignment Example (scroll down to the bottom of the page to see the example)
Select one quotation from one article and type it out in proper APA format, including in-text citations. This should be done as though you were incorporating them in your essay.
Paraphrase one section from one article and include the proper APA in-text citations.
Summarize one article. The summary should only be ONE paragraph long.
Cornell Method, complete the following assignment:
Part Seven - Gather your three articles from Part Two.
Part Eight - Following the example from the YouTube tutorial and PowerPoint presentation on the Cornell Method, complete the following task:
- Create a one-page note on ONE of your selected articles using the Cornell Method.
- You will have a total of one page to submit.
