Ex 1-Extrude Options
Steps:
1. Start a new part (choose the Part template):
2. Create a new sketch. From the Sketch toolbar, select Sketch (make sure you select Sketch, and not 3D Sketch). For the sketch support, select the Front plane.
3. Using the Line tool, sketch roughly this profile, starting from the Origin:
4. Add the relations as required (Horizontal, Vertical, Equal, Collinear) either from the Display/Delete Relations button on the Sketch panel, or by holding the Ctrl key and selecting the desired objects (look at the green glyphs in the next picture). After that, using the Smart Dimension option (also on the Sketch panel), place the dimensions. The result should look like this:
5. Finish the sketch (click on the green checkmark in the Confirmation Corner or click on Exit Sketch.
6. From the Features panel, select Extruded Boss/Base. Select the sketch you just created, and make sure you set the extrusion parameters as in the picture:
Note: You can flip the direction using the arrow below the Direction 1 button.
7. Finish the boss.
8. Make sure the settings allow the selection of hidden geometry in shaded mode. To do this, click on the “Options button”:
9. Start a new sketch on the face indicated in the picture
10. Sketch the following profile (make sure the lower horizontal line is collinear with the edge indicated by the arrow (the picture above), or the endpoints are coincident with it:
11. Trim the lower part of the circle and add the relations and dimensions:
12. Create an extruded boss (two solutions are presented - Through All and Up To Surface)
13. Press simultaneously Ctrl+a – all the edges of the solid will be selected (make sur no command is active, and nothing is selected, or only an edge object is selected):
14. Click on the Fillet button. If the Full Preview option is checked, you should see something like this
Make sure you also set the desired value for the fillet radius.
15. Click on the green checkmark to finish the operation:
16. To create the drawing, click the “New” icon, or go to File -> New. From the dialog box, select “Drawing”
17. If one or more models are opened in SW, you can double-click on them. Alternately, you can use the Browse button to open the model. Double-click on the desired model, then move the cursor to place the first view. If the view orientation is OK, accept it and move the cursor to indicate the location for the projected views. Click in the desired location to create the projected views:
Note: to break the alignment for a view (not recommended for projected views, OK for Isometric and some other views), press the Ctrl button. Change the view scale as desired.
Important: the drawing will automatically take the name of the (first) model that is selected for view creation. Therefore, if you name your model correctly, the drawing will automatically get the correct name.
18. Usually, a combination of Model Items (which brings the dimensions from the model into the drawing) and Smart Dimensions is necessary in most situations. Make sure you have enough dimensions (no less, no more) to fully define your design. Editing the dimensions created with Model Items will change the model geometry!
19. Arrange the dimensions according to drafting rules, make sure they can be read clearly. Tweak the appearance of the views (hidden lines on or off, tangent lines as solid, with font, or removed) so they are easy to interpret. Fill out the Title Block accordingly, by editing it.
