Question
"Establishing a climate of trust:" (Dubrin, 2016. p.282) is the icebreaker of a team building prosses should always start with team members. Making ideal promise you cannot keep only forces the team members to start the process with doubt and no motivation to participate. Ted talk discuss two concepts of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The alternative to the management here becomes to add freedom, challenges and responabilites to jobs and the work to create a mutual relationship of trust (Pink, 2010). Accepting a behavior in your job duty to receive the reward, like the evaluation you receive every six months and your performance depends on the amount of the raise shows valence, to obtain the sum of the outcome. The worth or attractiveness of an outcome is referred to as valence (DuBrin, 2019, p.257).
Three motivational theories Expectancy theory, Goal theory. has three components: valence, instrumentally and expectancy (DuBrin 2019 p.257). Valence is expectation of hard work with a positive outcome or a low valence with no motivational outcome. Instrumentally has the understanding of getting what they want. Expectancy theory has the understanding there is a result expected for the hard work, showing up early or going beyond the job duties to be compensated with a promotion. According to Pink, Autonomy motivates the team to think creatively, Mastery is looking for the potential to improve your skills and Purpose to look into themselves to become diligent and engaged (Pink 2009).
The second theory of motivation goal theory specific goals lead to specific higher performances to intrinsic motivation. (DuBrin 2019, p. 261). In order for a goal to be accomplished in the team building goal everyone needs to be on the same page to have the best results for motivation. Having rewards for team members increases performance along with the endurance to push harder to learn goal orientation.
The third theory disused was Reinforcement theory, by using rewards to reinforce the behavior of selective perception. Desired outcomes could be punishment and extinction, positive or negative. I think Pink is correct, employees are motivated by increase in salary compared to helping a company reach the goal.
