The purpose of this assignment is to simulate what it would be like to create a real-world website optimised for the mobile user.
The final outcomes of this module will result in a mobile website which demonstrates not only an understanding of the production process but also effectively discusses and displays an excellent understanding of mobile usability and the techniques used to create content.
Create a mobile optimised website for hellostamford
Hello Stamford wants to build a website that allows people coming to Stamford to get access to local information that might be of interest to them. As most of the users will be viewing the website from a mobile device they want to make sure the user experience is optimal for those users. The content must fit well on a mobile device well and be easy to read. All functionality of the website should be considered from the perspective of the mobile user first but scale "up" to a desktop website (a website typically accessed from a desktop computer).
You are asked to create mobile optimised website that links with relevant API's to provide data, and develop a HTML5/CSS template that will serve as the basis of each page to make sure the website is responsive or adaptive and optimized for mobile devices. You should avoid the use of a CSS framework, such as Bootstrap for this project, as a significant proportion of marks for implementation and code will be awarded based on how well you implement a modern website without these additional tools.
You are free to decide on the features you want to develop to provide important information about the town but some suggestions of suitable API's are provided below.
API's
Potential APi's you can use are below;
- Air Quality and Weather API
- Maps
- Police
- Events
- Food
You should attempt to use the location data via the mobile devices native API to provide users with local information. For further demonstration of technical skills you may consider the implementation of further native API's that access and utilise the functionality of a mobile device, such as sensors, battery status, camera etc.
Demonstration
The presentation should between 10 to 15 minutes in length and recorded using screen recording software, such as OBS or Microsoft Teams.
