Assignment:

Write a response to One myth regarding intersex is the belief that gender is unchangeable and based on biological characteristics. California still relies on definitions of gender and sex. For instance, while California has been progressive in many areas of LGBTQ+ rights, it has yet to create a legal banning of non-consensual surgeries on intersex infants and children. This lack of protection subjects intersex children to irreversible medical procedures, often leading to physical and psychological harm (Liao, 2022). The assumption that biological characteristics should align with gender norms creates a harmful myth that sex and gender are unchangeable and fixed at birth. Although California has taken steps to protect gender diversity, the lack of protections for intersex individuals creates a gap in the state's commitment to autonomy and human rights.
