Problem: Comparing Canada's Protection Efforts
Step I: Choose a country that you would like to compare to Canada.
Step II: Use your research skills to gather information about both Canada and your chosen country's efforts to protect spaces or species within their borders. Feel free to focus on one topic (space or species) if you prefer.
Suggestions:
1. You may wish to begin your research by looking at what laws/conservation efforts have been implemented by the government of the country. You can also revisit previous content from this activity.
2. You may find the Environmental Performance Index to be a good tool in helping you to gain some data for comparison.
3. Are there any noteworthy conservation successes or failures for Canada and your chosen country?
Step III: Create a visual way to demonstrate your comparison of the two countries. You may wish to create a video or Google My Maps. The goal of the visual is to educate the reader about how Canada's conservation efforts compare with your chosen country.
Step IV: Create a few criteria you will use to analyze and compare the two countries. What might these criteria look like? If you are researching protected spaces, one of your comparison criteria might be "Quantity of Protected Space." Or if you are researching protected species, one comparison criteria might be "Quantity of Extinct Animals." Develop criteria that will allow you to compare the protection efforts of the two countries.
Then, use your criteria to explain how Canada's protection efforts compare with your chosen country. Is Canada doing a better job, or worse? Be sure to justify your explanation using data from your investigation. Complete this comparison in written or oral form.
