Assignment Unit 1 F
Read this white paper on the Grand Ideas of Computer Science (see Assignment Unit 1 F document). These are the same "Grand Ideas" we have discussed in class the first two sessions and apply to both Computer Science and Information Technology. Pick one "grand idea" and illustrate its use and importance with an example from Information Technology. You may define the grand idea, but more importantly you need to "connect" the idea to a specific IT topic in context.
Produce a document that is clear and concise, free from syntax and semantic errors. Be sure to proof-read (review) your document before submitting it. Ensure your name and student ID is included in your document.
Your document needs to be your own work. Do not plagiarize by copying the ideas and words of others (online, hardcopy, fellow student, etc).
Assignment Unit 1 H
Create a document which defines and describes IT. You may use any resource; however, be sure to cite any resources you use. If you directly quote a source, use quotation marks around the text and include a footnote indentifying the source. Any reference material (online, hardcopy, etc) that you consult should be listed in a bibliography at the end of the document. Be sure to carefully consider the class discussion and include ideas about the system view of IT within your document. In addition, you should relate one grand idea of IT to the definition.

Assignment Unit 1 J
Locate a recent news item (less than one month old) from any online source that interests you. Create a document which summarizes the news item in a paragraph (provide the link to the news item also) and relate the article to a grand idea of IT. In addition, state what area of IT included in the news item interests you (perhaps one of the areas you listed in Assignment Unit 1 B).
(Be sure to connect a Grand Idea of IT to the news story.)
