ASSESSMENT : Maternal, Child and Youth Health Digital Infographic
ASSESSMENT TASK
Based on the health topic and population group identified in Assessment Two, create a digital health infographic to advocate for the suggested recommendations to be implemented, or to publicise the gap identified.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On completion of this assessment students should be able to:
• Appraise the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches to maternal, child and youth health service delivery in cross cultural community settings
• Critically discuss evidence and models relating to the role and impact of early life on health and wellbeing among different cultural groups
• Apply communication and collaboration skills to design evidence-based contributions to public health practice and scholarship.
ASSESSMENT FORMAT
• Length: no word count
• Word (or similar) digital document.
• You should include the ECU Cover Sheet at the start of your submission.
Main Components of Assessment:
Advocacy is known as the ‘art of persuasion’ (Public Health Advocacy Institute of WA (PHAIWA), n. d.). As a public health professional, a key aspect of your role is to advocate on important public health issues. This includes translating complicated research and project findings into easy to understand, accessible information to increase awareness amongst the wider population, and to lobby policy makers to generate change and action.
This task relates to the content in learning Module Six. You need to create:
a) A one-page (A4) infographic demonstrating the ‘top six reasons why’ your health issue requires attention. This should be a well-synthesised and visually appealing document that:
• raises awareness of the health issue and;
• advocates for change and action.
b) A one-page (A4) supporting document explaining why each reason is important and why the health issue should be targeted in advocacy efforts. Each of the six reasons presented in the infographic should be supported by one concise paragraph in the supporting document.
c) References should be cited in the supporting document and an end-text reference list included, using APA (6th edition) referencing style.
d) These documents should be merged into one single document (including an ECU assessment cover sheet) and submitted via the Turnitin link on Blackboard.
Note:
• Select the target audience for this task based on the population group you identified in Assessment Two. Tailor the information and language on your infographic to the specific needs of your audience.
• Your document will be assessed for clarity of message, visual appeal and design, accuracy of information and suitability for your target audience’s needs.
• There are many free software programs that offer templates to assist you with the design of your infographic. Some examples are Easly and Canva.
References:
• All in-text references should be cited in the supporting document and an end-text reference list included.
• All materials used to inform your work should be properly referenced according to the ECU referencing guide available.
