Question-

This question is based on the data used in Assignment 1. The sheet "obesity" contains the data from about 100,000 respondents of the survey regarding health in the year of 2009 In the United States. The data have eight variables: race (1="White", 2="Black", 3="Hispanic", 4="Other"), education (educational attainment: 0="less than high school", 1="High school dropout", 2="high school graduates", 3="some graduate", 4="college degree"), sex (0-"female", 1= "male"), BMI (Body Mass Index measured as weight(kg)/(height(m)2): smoking (smoking status: 1 ="current smoker", 2="former smoker", 3="never smoker"), exercise (physical activity status: 0="no physical activity", 1="physical activity"), working (working status: 0="not working" 1="working"), age (in years), and weight (health status, 0="underweight" if BMI < 18.5, 1="Normal or Healthy Weight" if 18.5 ≤ BMI < 25, 2="Overweight" if 25 ≤ BMI < 30, and 3= "Obese" if EMI ≥ 30).

1. Create a cross-tabulation (pivot) table with health status in row and physical activity status in column (polish a table as much as possible, that is, add labels and titles properly). The number in each cell should be % of grand total.

2. Do the data provide sufficient evidence to infer chat whether physical activity status is related to health status? To answer this question, conduct a relevant hypothesis testing.

(a) State the null and alternative hypotheses.

(b) Obtain the test statistic and the p-value. (You don't need to show me how to calculate these.)

(c) Do you reject the null hypothesis at the 5% level of significance?

(d) "Do the data provide sufficient evidence to infer that whether physical activity status is related to health status?"

3. Does the difference in BMI exist between those who exercise and who do not? To answer this question,

(a) First, conduct the hypothesis testing of variances. Specify the null and alternative hypotheses, obtain the test statistic and the p-value. State whether you reject the null hypothesis test at the 5% level of significance.

(b) Based on the result above, conduct the hypothesis testing on the means of BMI. Specify the null and alternative hypotheses; obtain the test statistic and the p-value. State whether you reject the null hypothesis test at the 5% level of significance.

4. Do the BMI differences exist across smoking status? To answer this question, conduct the one-way ANOVA.

(a) State the null and alternatives hypotheses.

(b) Obtain the test statistic and the p-value.

(c) Do you reject the null hypothesis at the 5% level of significance?

(d) "Do the BMI differences exist across smoking status?"

5. Do the BMI differences exist across educational attainment? To answer this question, conduct the one-way ANOVA.

(a) State the null and alternatives hypotheses.

(b) Obtain the test statistic and the p-value.

(c) Do you reject the null hypothesis at the 5% level of significance?

(d) "Do the BMI differences exist across educational attainment?"
