Colour Board Assignment -

You will create a Colour Board which demonstrates your interpretation of a colour story and colour scheme for the Fall/Winter 19/20 fashion season. Your objective is to provide a visual overview of the types of colours and colour stories trending as shown on WGSN and which will likely be seen in retail outlets as well as in consumer publications. Your visuals will include a thematic representation of your inspiration for the colour story. Your board should have an original source of inspiration which you will identify and from which a relationship to the colour story is evident. (Do not use images already found on WGSN).

"Board" Format:

This board should be colour printed, 11 X 17 inches. There should not be a border larger than ¼ inch. The board must be submitted in the envelope provided. The envelope must have a cover page that has your name, student number, group (e.g. FAB101AA) and my name centred and typed. College level assignments do not have any hand lettering.

This board should be colour printed on 11 X 17 inch paper, in colour, with a ¼ inch border, landscape orientation and include:

1. An original title for your Colour board which is descriptive of the colour story.

2. There should be imagery/backgrounds that illustrate the colour story and colour scheme. You must use a particular piece of architecture, an artist, an art style, an historical figure, a cultural event, geographical location, or an item from nature which will serve as the key inspiration of your board.

3. 3 women's fashion images (at least one full figure showing a complete fashion outfit, other images may be accessories) which show the colour trend.

4. 5 colours for the season from one of the Women's Colour Trends for A/W 19/20 as found on WGSN. These should be organized according to the requirements discussed in class (1 inch square). Each colour should be given an original name (do not use the names from WGSN) and these must be on the board. When naming your colours be sure to consider how they relate to your original source of inspiration. (For instance, you would not have a "Beachy Beige" in a Fall colour story which has as its inspiration a pumpkin field).

Written Work:

All written work should be college level. It must have no spelling or grammatical errors and show evidence of having been proof read.

Your explanation must have a cover page formatted as above, must be a minimum of two pages, typed (Arial 12 font) and have a separate reference page for your citations. These must be stapled together. Citations (APA format) for all of the images are required. You must cite your work to avoid a charge of plagiarism and a grade of 0. See the program reference and standards document for details on citing images.

Your written work will include the following three sections:

1. Properly formatted cover pages (1 for the outside glued onto the envelope, 1 for this written work)

2. Identification of your original Colour Story - Title, Colour Names, explanation of the Colour Story and Colour Scheme you have created with the colours chosen (only one colour scheme may be used and identified - e.g. primary, romantic, festive - see Colour Notes). Identification and explanation of which WGSN colour story for A/W 19/20 from which you took your five colours. (Light Magic, Freestyle or Purposeful)

3. Theme/inspiration for the Colour Story - Identify the theme and inspiration for your colour story. Supplementary images to support the theme should be chosen not only to relate to the theme but to clarify the colour story. This should be clear through your visuals and explained in your written work.

4. Thematic illustrations and background - explain why these were chosen and how they reflect the colour story.

Requirements for this assignment:

1. Laptop with PowerPoint (Microsoft Word*).

For in class assessment you must come with a laptop. If you do not have a laptop you can sign one out at the Computing Commons

Help desk or confirm with the professor the week before this class that you would like to use one of the Surface pros.

*We will not be using any Apple or Adobe products.

3. Colour Board will need to be printed with a minor border (not more than ¼ inch) on 11 X 17 paper in colour.

4. Access to the Library website and WGSN

In class time will be provided for work on the Colour Board development . Clarification of questions and concerns happens in this class time.

Coming prepared to class with the required materials will allow for greater success in the production of a professional board.

You will need to bring with you to class:

1. First draft of your written work with your citations and reference list

2. Identification of the Women's Colour Trends for A/W 19/20 as found on WGSN that you intend to use for your colour board

3. Colours from the Core Colour Trend have been identified

4. Preliminary identification of your colour story and colour scheme, board title and colour names

5. File with your thematic illustrations.
