Mike, aged 38, presents for court-mandated therapy. He is in a BDSM relationship with Katie, aged 25. According to Mike, their relationship is consensual. Five months into their relationship, Mike brought Katie to the hospital where she was admitted due to severe bodily injuries. Nurses reported her having bruises on her legs. The nurses also noticed that some of the bruises seemed to be older than others. Even though Katie claimed her injuries were a result of her and Mike's consensual sexual activities, the nurses reported Mike to the police due to their suspicion of domestic violence. During his interview with the police, Mike also claimed that his and Katie's sexual activities were consensual and that Katie's injuries were a result of their BDSM habits. The result of the police report is court-mandated therapy for Mike. Mike is willing but frustrated by what he sees as a lack of understanding.
