A. Team Project- Country Due Diligence Analysis
Background: You are the vice-president for human resources for the Washington Company headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, USA. You have just attended a meeting where the CEO tells you the company wants to expand overseas. She has asked all functional-area vice presidents to prepare a report about the location advantages and disadvantages of establishing a regional office.
The CEO can't decide whether or not to establish the regional office in the United Kingdom. She has asked four employee teams to prepare a report describing the pros and cons of the location from an HR perspective. Ultimately, you need to make a recommendation on the benefits and disadvantages of setting up operations in this country.
The country regional office will include the regional management/administrative functions, regional sales and marketing, and other staff functions. There will be three expatriates from Headquartered, and local nationals working at this same location.
In the report, you will need to analyze the local workforce environment as it applies to HR practices and the functioning of the location.
Expatriate workforce issues
This section should contain 4 pages of analysis. You can includeadditional materials (tables, graphs, resources, etc.) to supplementthe 4 page analysis.
a. Compensation and benefit concerns for expatriates (cost of living, inflation, taxes, currency risk, retirement savings, etc.); availability and cost of housing, schools, etc. for expatriates and their dependents; health, safety and security threats (health risks such as pollution or contagious diseases, terrorism, natural disasters, etc.) and quality of life for expatriates? How much would it cost to send an expatriate to that location, including salary, relocation, and appropriate allowances?
b. Selection concerns: what criteria for selection do you recommend for an expat manager position for that country/job?
c. What are the biggest challenges in attracting and retaining expatriate talent for this location?
