Analyze problem 11.6 with the use of the correlations proposed by Kumar and correlation proposed by Chisholm and Wanniarachchi to see if the proposed design is feasible. Then, compare the results of both correlations. Could this heat exchanger be smaller or larger?
problem 11.6
A heat exchanger is required to heat treated cooling water with a flow rate of 60 kg/s from 10°C to 50°C using the waste heat from water, cooling from 60°C to 20°C with the same flow rate as the cold water. The maximum allowable pressure drop for both streams is 120 kPa. A gasketed-plate heat exchanger with 301 plates having a channel width of 50 cm, a port diameter of 0.15 m and a vertical distance between ports of 1.5 m is proposed and the plate pitch is 0.0035 m with an enlargement factor of 1.25. The spacing between the plates is 0.6 mm. Plates are made of stainless steel (316) (k = 16.5 W/m · K). For a two-pass/ two-pass arrangement, analyze the problem to see if the proposed design is feasible. Could this heat exchanger be smaller or larger?
Consider the simple linear regression model without an intercept, y = ß1x + u, with the assumption E(u|x)=0. Also assume that E(x)=0 Show that E(y)=0 and using this as well as E(x)=0 show that the covariance between x and y is given by E(xy) and t..
Suppose Springfield's economy moves into a recession and Y falls to $9 and rising unemployment allows widget makers to reduce wages to $18 per hour. What happens to the supply and demand curves.
Characterize the equilibrium path of this economy, and show that as α → 1, the equilibrium path approaches that of the baseline AK economy. Interpret this result.
