Case: Pedro was charged with first-degree murder. He lacked the financial resources to pay for his defense. The court assigned him as a court-appointed lawyer to Lcdo. Abreu. Throughout the process, Pedro complained that his lawyer did not interview him about the facts and did not answer his calls. Nor did it guide him on the criminal process that was taking place. On the day of the trial, his lawyer recommended that he make a plea of guilt and accept the offer of the Public Prosecutor's Office, to serve 50 years in prison for the crime of homicide. Peter did not accept the offer, and the Court of Law trial began that same day. The Lcdo. Abreu did not ask any questions to the witnesses and did not object to any of the statements made by the Prosecutor. He only devoted himself to taking notes. Pedro was found guilty by the judge and sentenced to serve 115 years in prison for the crime of first-degree murder. Peter left the room handcuffed and shouting that he was innocent.
